Study: Erosion causing lakes' water loss in Lake Huron and Michigan

We just don't know the impact of what we do...

Dredging of the St. Clair river in the 60's has apparently caused water outflows in excess of 2.5 billion gallons a day in the great lakes system.

As a side note, with costs of municipal water around $15 per thousand gallons...that's about $37MM down the drain every day.
