Another "Big" pharma restructuring - This time at J&J

Another big Pharma company has announced a restructuring...in this case the target cuts will affect about 4000 people...

The future of Pharma is in specialty pharmaceuticals and generics

I'm a little surprised that the company is Johnson & Johnson. I'm also curious about the reason given. The expiration of patents? Isn't there a procedure to renew patents?

actually Ginny...the only way I know of for a pharmaceutical company to extend a patent is to expand testing to included pediatrics. If the drug is suitable for children it can get an extension to the patent. This is supposed to incent companies to expand the safety testing to include children.
